Norwich & Around

Norwich has been an important English town for over 1000 years and at one point was one of England most important centres of trade. Norwich and its surrounding villages are right in the centre of the Norfolk which means it’s an excellent base for trips to the broads and Great Yarmouth as well as the north coast and King’s Lynn.

Norwich is Norfolk’s largest city and the only one which really feels like a city. The central area is especially vibrant and as well as being the counties centre for business is also excellent for shopping. Much of the architecture is either very very old or very new, with not much in between; perhaps a sign of the cities wealth.

An interesting feature of Norwich is its over-abundance of churches, which has resulted in many being converted into tourist attractions such as the puppet theatre and the Inspire centre.

There is a good amount of parking in Norwich but expect to pay. The train line connecting Norwich to London and Birmingham is, perhaps surprisingly, about 1-1.5km to the east of the centre. There are boat trips from close to the station which take you closer to the centre; but as the river doesn't run directly through the centre the usefulness of this is debatable.
